Initiation of an inter-hospital ECMO transfer program for patients suffering from severe acute heart and/or pulmonary failure.

چکیده
f inserting cannulas in both femoral veins, lodging one in the right atrium (outflow) and the other in the inferior vena cava (inflow). In cases of cardiogenic shock, veno-arterial ECMO support was surgically implanted in the deltopectoral groove giving access to the axillary artery to connect the arterial line and a venous cannula inserted percutaneously in the inferior vena cava. Procedures were performed under general anesthetic in the patient’s intensive care unit bed, after administering 10 000 U heparin.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for transport of hypoxaemic patients with severe ARDS.
Conventional inter-hospital transfer of patients with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in need of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) may be risky and in severe hypoxaemic patients may be associated with cerebral hypoxia and death. Therefore, we began a phase 1 study to evaluate the feasibility, complications and outcome of inter-hospital transport of these patients usin...
متن کاملThe feasibility of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support for inter-hospital transport and as a bridge to lung transplantation.
BACKGROUND Regional lung transplantation centers should be equipped with an inter-hospital transport program that can provide life-support for lung transplant candidates who develop acute respiratory failure outside the hospital. The purpose of this study was to assess the value of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) as a means of support during transport and as a bridge to lung transpla...
متن کاملExtracorporeal membrane oxygenation for acute respiratory distress syndrome
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) can be a lifesaving therapy in patients with refractory severe respiratory failure or cardiac failure. Severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) still has a high-mortality rate, but ECMO may be able to improve the outcome. Use of ECMO for respiratory failure has been increasing since 2009. Initiation of ECMO for adult ARDS should be considered ...
متن کاملA Case Report of a Young Pregnant Woman with Preeclampsia and Acute Pulmonary Edema in Severe Transient Heart Failure
Introduction: Young pregnant woman (32 weeks) following one-month illnesses, including peripheral edema, paresthesia and shortness of breath, for which no specific diagnosis was made in the evaluations; she was hospitalized with severe respiratory distress and pulmonary edema. Re-examination revealed severe systolic heart failure (left ventricular ejection fraction: 10-15%) with preeclampsia. A...
متن کاملMassive systemic air embolism during extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support of a neonate with acute respiratory distress syndrome after cardiac surgery.
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is universally accepted as a potential lifesaving therapy for neonates suffering severe cardiorespiratory failure, with survival reported as 81% weaning off ECMO and 69% to hospital discharge in this population. Although ECMO may reduce mortality in certain neonatal patients, it is associated with significant complications. Air in the circuit complicat...
